El Mayyas: It is a traditional Armenian-Lebanese, you can eat fantastic mezze and Armenian specialities from Aleppo, in a cosy atmosphere more reminiscent of a Mediterranean island than an old Achrafieh house. The great atmosphere, romantic & live entertainment will add a value to the great food as an old Armenian with a three-string guitar will go from a table to another to amuse you with a song of your choice, modern or traditional.

The Beirut Cellar: This French restaurant in Beirut has 30 years of service experience. It is located in a quiet and wealthy area of Achrafieh. Popular for the older crowd who looks nostalgically back to the days of the civil war, it was one of the few functioning restaurants during that period. The design reminds a Swiss chalet, with wood and white plaster walls. The menu proposes salads, pastas and steaks, while the wine list includes decent local and old french ones.

It serves home-made pasta and risottos, you can add a wine chosen from their international wine list.

After diner, you can go have a drink in Gemmayze. It is the “Bohemian artistic” region, filled with historical buildings and streets. This place is full of bars, cafes, restaurants and lounges, but not very known for clubbing. The tip to go in this street is to park at the beginning of the street and walk, first because you won’t get caught into traffic and secondly because you will be able to have a drink in any bar you want, and even better have one drink per bar.

However, if you feel like listening to some jazz music you have this other option :

The Blue Note Café. So, if you are a jazz lover, this place will definitely be your heaven on earth. While eating either Lebanese typical food or an American hamburger, your ears will be delighted to the sound of the mix of guitar and trumpet. On their website, you can find the program with the different musicians.

One thing you have to know if you want to understand and integrate the Lebanese life; Nightlife is their oxygen. It is a part of their daily chores. One could try to find an explanation such as the situation of the country, but you shall not think about this and just choose a place where to party for tonight.

By going there you are sure to have a great night of fun and drinking.

The after-party

B018

Oh really? You really think you are going home? Not that fast! Even if its 3a.m and you are exhausted and have to wake up early tomorrow, one should find no excuse for missing going to Beirut without discovering this mythical and unique place called BO18 (Be Over 18). Yes, even when you think you are done with the party… well it continues! This place is the summit of Beirut’s limits. You don’t like underground music? That’s okay, because once you are in this place, you’ll have so many things to look at that you will forget about the music.  Created by a famous lebanese architect, Bernard Khoury, this place is underground, with a dark entry bringing you down to the cemetery, when you go in it is filled with coffin, you can dance or sit on. If you think it is a weird place, you are definitely right.
